Partnership Broadens Subscriber Choice of GSM Handsets with Kodiak
Advanced Voice Services Technology
San Ramon, CA – November 16, 2004 – Kodiak Networks, the leading provider of advanced wireless voice systems, and TCL & Alcatel Mobile Phones, a leading handset manufacturer, today announced a global licensing and marketing agreement to develop GSM phones. The handsets will be based on Kodiak’s advanced wireless system technology, which enables a suite of premium, instant voice services, including push-to-talk (PTT).
Under this strategic licensing agreement, the two companies will jointly market PTT handsets with Kodiak client software to GSM network operators worldwide. TCL & Alcatel Mobile Phones plans to develop a broad range of Kodiak-enabled phones to meet all market requirements. Initial production will include a series of mid-range phones which will be announced later this year.
“This agreement with Kodiak Networks complements our business strategy for TCL & Alcatel Mobile Phones,” said Alain Lejeune, VP Operations.“We intend to expand market coverage around the globe, leveraging TCL Mobile’s low-cost production base and Alcatel’s brand equity, as well as increase the pace of product rollouts. Kodiak-enabled GSM phones will allow us to meet the increasing subscriber demand for PTT handsets in China, Europe and other regions.”
“The global strength of TCL & Alcatel Mobile Phones will provide significant opportunities for expanding usage of Kodiak-enabled phones,” said Bruce Lawler, vice president of business development, Kodiak Networks. “This agreement affords both of our organizations the ability to market differentiated handsets that enable advanced voice services for end users.”
“There are more than one billion GSM customers around the world, which makes this an attractive market for PTT-enabled GSM handsets,” said Andrew Seybold, principal analyst, Outlook4Mobility. “This agreement leverages the assets of both organizations including Kodiak’s advanced handset technology and the enormous production and distribution capabilities of TCL & Alcatel Mobile Phones.”
